“Star Trek” Reunion at Nutmeg

Sometimes the stars—the movie stars—unexpectedly align right here at Nutmeg! George Takei and Christian Slater, who appeared together in “Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country,” were both at Nutmeg for separate audio projects and crossed paths in our sixth-floor lobby. Slater, a huge Star Trek fan, had an uncredited cameo as a U.S.S. Excelsior communications officer who wakes Captain Sulu. “And Sulu was not pleased,” Takei recalled with a laugh. Takei and his husband Brad, who was also on hand, recalled seeing Slater on stage in London’s West End. “In ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,’” said Slater, the 2016 Golden Globes winner for Best Supporting Actor in a TV series for the title role in USA Network‘s “Mr. Robot.” “Yes, and now we’re both veterans of the stage,” said Takei, on Broadway through February 14 in the critically acclaimed “ Allegiance – A New Musical.” There goes the Internet.
